The controller responsible for processing personal data on this website is the operator of kuehn.studio:

2. Purpose and scope of this website
kuehn.studio is a multilingual story and community platform for books, chapters, reader profiles, notifications, community features, and supporter-based access. The specific personal data processed depends on whether you merely visit the website or also use account, reader, community, or linked-service features.
3. Website access, server logs, and security
When you access the website, technically necessary connection and server data is processed. This may include your IP address, date and time of access, requested URL, referrer URL, browser and device information, and status or error data. This processing is required to deliver the website, maintain stability and security, detect abuse, and resolve technical issues.
The legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR. Server and security logs are stored only as long as necessary for secure operation, error analysis, or abuse investigation and are then deleted or anonymized unless longer retention is exceptionally required for evidence or legal obligations.
4. Browser storage and consent
The website stores an essential consent decision so that your browser-storage choice does not need to be requested again on every page. Convenience features such as theme, reader, and spoiler settings are stored in the browser only after you expressly allow preferences. Non-essential browser storage is used only after your consent, and you can change that decision later.
The legal basis for essential storage is technical necessity; the legal basis for non-essential convenience storage is your consent under Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR in conjunction with your consent choice.
5. Account, login, and linked services
If you use an account or connect it with Patreon or Discord, kuehn.studio processes the data required for authentication, account maintenance, and technical assignment. This may include internal account data, external user IDs, membership or role information, technical token data, and the linking information required by the respective service.
This processing is necessary to provide login, supporter-based access, role synchronization, community features, and linked account functionality. The legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR where processing is necessary for requested account functions, and Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR for secure technical administration and abuse prevention.
If you actively use Patreon or Discord functions, data is transmitted to or retrieved from those services. Processing outside the EU or EEA, in particular in third countries such as the United States, cannot be ruled out. The privacy information and contractual terms of the respective service also apply.
6. Reading progress and reader functions
If you enable reading-progress storage, the platform processes account-related chapter progress, scroll positions, completion states, and resume data so that reader functions are preserved across devices. If this setting is disabled, such progress data is no longer synchronized.
The legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR for the reader account function you request. Progress data is generally stored while your account exists and the feature remains active; afterwards it is no longer used for active synchronization and is deleted or anonymized as part of regular data cleanup unless legal obligations require otherwise.
7. Profiles, community, and notifications
For public profiles, kuehn.studio processes only the information you choose to share, such as display name, username, bio, social links, enabled profile modules, and visible activity or progress data. For notifications, the platform processes your preferences and, if enabled, your email address for chapter or activity alerts.
The legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR where processing is necessary for the account and community features you use, and Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR where you actively enable optional visibility or notification features. Notification settings and voluntarily shared profile data are generally stored until you change them, disable them, or delete your account.
8. Contact form and handling of enquiries
If you use the contact form, kuehn.studio processes the data you enter, especially your name, email address, subject, message content, and technical request metadata. This processing takes place solely to receive and answer your enquiry, prevent abuse of the form, and, if necessary, forward the request to the responsible part of the website operation.
The legal basis is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR where your enquiry relates to the initiation or performance of a specific user relationship and otherwise Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR based on the legitimate interest in reliable communication, abuse prevention, and handling general enquiries. Contact-form enquiries are not used for marketing without separate consent and are retained in mailboxes or systems only as long as necessary to process, follow up, or legally safeguard the respective enquiry.
9. Legal bases at a glance
Depending on the feature, kuehn.studio processes personal data on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR (consent, especially for non-essential browser preferences and optional features), Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR (providing requested account, reader, platform, and enquiry functions), Art. 6 para. 1 lit. c GDPR (legal obligations), and Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR (secure, stable, abuse-resistant platform operation and the handling of general enquiries).
10. Recipients and third-country transfers
Recipients of personal data may include technical hosting and infrastructure providers, security- or delivery-related technical providers, and linked services actively used by you, such as Patreon or Discord. Data is transferred only where necessary for the respective function, secure operation, or compliance with legal obligations. Personal data is not sold.
Where linked services or technical providers process data in third countries, the specific third-country context depends on the service used. Where appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or similar mechanisms are used, details are set out in the respective provider’s privacy information.
11. Storage periods and deletion criteria
Storage periods depend on the respective function:
Technical connection, error, and security data is stored only for the period necessary for operation, security, and error analysis.
Consent and browser-preference data remains stored until you delete it in your browser, change your choice, or storage is no longer required for the respective feature.
Account data, profile information, and linking information are generally stored while your account exists or the respective link remains active.
Notification and reader data remain stored while the respective feature is used or until you disable, delete, or end your account.
Contact enquiries remain stored as long as necessary for processing, follow-up questions, abuse prevention, or legal evidence.
Statutory retention or evidentiary obligations remain unaffected.
12. Requirement to provide data
Providing technical connection data is necessary to access the website. Without that data, the website cannot be delivered. If you do not want to use account, Patreon, Discord, reader, notification, or contact features or do not provide the data required for them, those features may be unavailable in whole or in part. Voluntary profile information and optional visibility settings do not have to be provided.
13. Automated decision-making
There is currently no solely automated decision-making, including profiling, that produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you.
14. Your rights
Within the scope of the law, you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to certain processing. Any consent you have given can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement.
15. Contact for privacy enquiries
Privacy-related enquiries can be sent to info@kuehn.studio or submitted through the contact page.
